THE SHIRE: a community music program

We love music and we love community—especially our community. Many of us in Forest Grove, where the idea for this initiative was birthed, affectionately call our neighbourhood “The Shire.”

The Shire Community Music Program seeks to foster musicality while having fun. The best way we know to do this is with other musicians.

These music lessons will be taking place at ethos coffee house. While your kids are having a lesson, stick around and have a cup of coffee, take in the art, read a book, surf on our wi-fi, or simply take the opportunity to relax at one of our tables.

We will be offering a couple of intro programs this Spring starting March 28, 2011.

To sign up or find out more, come visit us at ethos, download a brochure, or drop us a note at ethos@southside.ca.

The Magic Flute Program (Age 3-5) - $40 for 8 Sessions

The Magic Flute Music Program is a group preschool music program that teaches the basics of musical language. It serves children and their families in their desire to enjoy music, enrich their lives, and participate in community by means of sharing music creatively. While parents don’t have to participate in the program, they must stay on site at the café.

Starts Monday, March 28.

Rhythm Sessions I (Age 6-9) and II (Age 10-12) - $30 for 6 Sessions

Rhythm Sessions is a program designed to expose and introduce Elementary School Age kids to the acoustic guitar and percussion. It is a group session meant to be both fun and musically educational. Students must provide their own guitar and they are welcome to bring any percussion instruments they would like to learn. Other percussion instruments will be provided as well.

Starts Wednesday, March 30. (Rhythm Sessions I is Full)

Instructors

Megan Bryden

Megan is a classically trained musician with a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance. She has six years experience in teaching children music and believes all young children are intrinsically musical when exposed to music in a creative and fun way. She is extremely excited to offer this program to this community.

Craig Bosnick

A local musician who loves to try anything that can make music. His first loves are guitar and percussion. While not formally trained, he was fortunate enough to have a dad who “put a guitar in his hand when he was born.”
