The Shire Music Program: Fall 2011

The Shire Community Music Program is gearing up for the fall season with a few changes and a number of opportunities for kids to grow in their musicality and musicianship. Fall offerings are listed below or contact us for more info at theshire@southside.ca.

Magic Flute Program (MF): The Magic Flute Music Program is a group music program designed for children that teaches the basics of musical language. This class is ideal for students who do not feel ready for private music instruction but want to build a strong foundation for later success in music lessons. It serves children and their families in their desire to enjoy music, enrich their lives, and participate in community by means of sharing music creatively.

Rhythm Sessions Program (RS): Rhythm Sessions is a program that exposes and introduces Elementary School age kids to the acoustic guitar, rhythm and percussion. It’s a group session meant to equip the young musician personally and to learn to play with other musicians. Students must provide their own guitar and they are welcome to bring any percussion instruments they would like to experiment with. Other percussion instruments will be provided.

Homelessness Awareness Evening (April 2nd)

Saturday, April 2nd at 7:30pm, Wanda Mullholland from Burnaby Task Force on Homelessness will be joining us at Ethos to present both the issues and ways we can be involved in addressing homelessness in Burnaby. We'll have some special drinks on hand and it will be an opportunity for us to learn about an important issue and some ways we can be involved as a neighbourhood.

While Ethos is a family friendly environment this may be an evening to come without your kids so you can spend some quality time with Wanda. She will be giving a short presentation and then leaving lots of time for questions and dialogue.

For more info on Burnaby Task force on Homelessness visit their website.

Opening Date!!!

Ethos Coffee House will be open again starting March 4th. We'll be open on Friday and Saturday nights from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. We look forward to serving coffee and fostering community in our neighbourhood. Check out the calendar for special evenings and events such as Open Mic, Homeless Awareness Night, the Great Exchange II and come in and see the latest gallery presentation.

See you March 4th.

Ethos Closed for Christmas Break

We've had a great month or so of life at Ethos. We had another great month of live music and a great poetry and art presentation. We celebrated Christmas together generously giving to a few local and global organizations working towards justice in different ways. It's time for our volunteers to take a deserved Christmas break. We'll be open mid January or so.

Next open mic is planned for January 28th and the gallery will have a new presentation as well.
